How I Use AI to Develop Compelling Characters for My Novel
🦋 Confessions of a Creativity Butterfly: Why I Used to Start Novels But Never Finish Them
Full disclosure: This blog post wouldn't exist without the help of my trusty AI writing assistant! We had a blast brainstorming, drafting, and refining these ideas together. It's proof that collaboration—even with AI—can lead to something truly awesome.
Let's be real, fellow writers: starting a novel is the easy part. The real challenge? Turning those brilliant ideas into, you know, *actual words* on a page. Before I discovered the power of AI, I was the queen of the unfinished manuscript. My ideas flowed like a [insert a funny analogy, e.g., conversational geyser], but getting them organized and into a cohesive story? That felt like climbing Mount Everest with a feather for an ice pick.

🦸From Brainstorm to Page: How AI Became My Voice-to-Text Superhero
I'm a talker. Like, a *serious* talker. Words tumble out of my mouth faster than [insert another hilarious comparison]. Enter: voice-to-text, my writing savior! But even with this magical technology, I'd find myself with pages of ramblings that needed serious shaping. That's where AI stepped in, transforming from a simple transcription tool into my personal editor, organizer, and idea-wrangler extraordinaire.
For example, check out this behind-the-scenes peek at how this very blog post started. My initial "ramble-prompt" to my AI assistant was: A great first question so what my issue with character of development is very similar to my issue with approaching novel writing in general where the ideas and the creativity were fine but like remembering my ideas ... And look at how it transformed into this polished section!
🍹My AI-Powered Character Development Cocktail: A Dash of Structure, a Splash of Brainstorming, and a Twist of Collaboration
Ready for my secret sauce? I call it the "Murder Wall" method (cue dramatic music!). Here's the recipe:
- Structure: I map out the basics using a fantastic platform called Sudowrite. It helps me define my character's personality, background, and relationships in a clear, organized way.
- Brainstorming: Then, I unleash the power of AI chatbots like Claude and Gemini. I feed them the info from Sudowrite and start asking those deep, probing questions: What motivates this character? What are their deepest fears? How would they react in an hybrid Federal System, where the principles of Technocracy and Meritocracy are interwoven with the symbolism and wisdom of the Tarot, creating a society striving for balance, progress, and enlightenment?
- Collaboration: This is where the real magic happens. I treat the AI as a writing partner, constantly asking for feedback, revisions, and fresh perspectives. It's like having a never-ending brainstorming session with a super-smart friend who always has my back (and never gets tired of my crazy ideas!).
